Medical Laser Treatment
Are you tired of looking in the mirror and only noticing the wrinkles on your face? Have severe acne breakouts left you with embarrassing scars? Or have years of sun worshipping left you with sun damage and age spots? If you’ve said “yes” to any of these questions, laser skin rejuvenation using a medical laser may be just the thing your skin needs to bounce back looking better than ever.
The success behind laser skin resurfacing is all thanks to the powerful light beam we use. By sending short pulses of light over the skin, we can remove the outermost layers of the skin that tend to contain the most damage. Removing dead layers of skin and heating up the new layers underneath can help to stimulate the production of collagen, which can boost skin’s elasticity and tone while also improving these common skin conditions:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun damage
- Liver spots
- Superficial scars
- A dull complexion
- Enlarged pores
The first step is to consult with our physician, who can determine whether using a medical laser is the right cosmetic treatment for your goals. We will provide you with some common do’s and do not's for before and after your medical laser treatment to ensure that your procedure goes as smoothly as possible.
Laser skin rejuvenation with a medical laser is a simple outpatient procedure, meaning that you can go home immediately after your treatment. Some patients may choose to target specific regions while others may wish to treat their entire face. Treating smaller areas usually takes anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes while treating a full-face can take one to two hours to complete.
Before medical laser treatment begins we will numb the area beforehand so that you don’t experience discomfort. We will discuss your anesthetic options with you during your consultation. In many cases, a local anesthesia is all that is needed. Sedation may also be requested for particularly nervous or sensitive patients. Some patients planning to treat their entire face may also opt for general anesthesia.
Once the procedure is complete, we will bandage up the area to prevent infection. We will give you full instructions on how to care for your skin and clean it while it heals. It is normal to experience some discomfort, redness, itchy, burning or swelling after treatment. Depending on the issue or issues you are treating with laser therapy, your recovery period may be anywhere from 10 to 21 days.
